European Tilt-And-Turn Windows
European Tilt-And-Turn windows have been actively installed in homes and commercial properties throughout Europe for over 2 decades and have proven themselves to be ultra-reliable, energy efficient, secure and easy to use and maintain. Tilt-and-turn windows are also quite popular in Canada and slowly gaining ground in the US. These windows are somewhat similar to casement windows, but instead of a fragile crank, they are operated with robust handle that controls multiple locks (on a 3’ x 6’ window there are 7 locks). The window swings into the inside of the home either as a door or tilts in as a hopper window. This allows for easy cleaning without unnecessary and complicated flipping of sashes, etc. The best part is that since the window tilts or swings into the house, it is never exposed to the rain or wind gusts as a traditional casement window would be, and permits the installation of the mosquito screen on the outside of the home.
Further, multiple lock system creates excellent compression seal between sash and frame – window features 2 or more rubber gaskets around the sash. In fact, the windows are so draft-free, that in small apartments special considerations are usually made to ensure that some ventilation still occurs! Thanks to the same multiple lock and compression seal features, Tilt-and-Turn windows also offer superior noise protection.
Since the sash is hinged similar to a door, both the sash and the window can be made out of quality substantial materials and thick triple pane or laminated glass can be used for additional energy efficiency or security. Yet a 150-pound window can still be easily operated by a child. This can be contrasted to a flimsy double-sash or traditional casement windows that cannot be made heavy due to fragile open/close mechanisms.

How long do uPVC Tilt-And-Turn Windows last?
uPVC is an excellent material that requires no maintenance, can withstand direct solar and rain exposure and will last over 50 years, while maintaining its original beauty and function. Unlike flimsy vinyl windows, uPVC Tilt-and-Turn windows use much thicker and more robust plastic along with galvanized steel reinforcement channel inside both the frame and the sash. This gives the window outstanding physical strength, resistance to warpage and allows use of heavy duty double or triple pane glazing. The multi-lock hardware is factory tested for over 100 000 openings (so if you open and close a window once a day, it will last for over 140 years!).
Finally, My Smarter Window uses high quality glazing that is guaranteed to not fog up for as long as you own the house. On a typical window, the glazing is not glued in (so called “dry glazing”) which allows for easy replacement of the glass in case of breakage.
